The 3.2 Carrera was launched in October 1983 and although similar in appearance to the outgoing SC, had numerous technical improvements to improve driveability, refinement, and performance.
Most notable was the new 3164cc engine that featured a digital Motronic 2 electronic (DME) management system and a new Bosch LE Jetronic fuel injection to raise power from 204BHP to 231BHP. This not only gave a 10% improvement in fuel economy, but the top speed increased from 146mph to 152mph too.
Electric seats replaced the manual items in the SC, the heating system was improved, and the interior featured more luxurious materials.
In October 1986, a significant change was made with the introduction of the G50 gearbox, which further improved refinement and ease of driving. It is these models that are the more desirable cars today.
We are very pleased to offer this 1989 C16 UK specification RHD 3.2 Carrera Sport coupe for sale.
It was originally supplied by Issac Agnew, the official Porsche Centre in Northern Ireland finished in Dunkel Blue with linen interior featuring blue pinstripe inlays, the combination it is still in today.
Being a sport model, it featured front and rear spoilers, Bilstein shock absorbers, 16” Fuchs alloys and for 1989, the rear wheel width was increased to 8” which gives the car its distinctive look.
It has enjoyed regular maintenance and has covered 62,900 miles from new including recent additional mechanical refurbishment in 2019 and the fitment of a new Scart exhaust system which sounds fabulous. Externally the car has been repainted some time ago and is virtually unmarked, whilst the Fuchs wheels are still in their original finish and in remarkable condition.
The interior is still original, with the exception of a retrimmed steering wheel and although not new, presents well for its 30 years of age.
We have carried out our pre-sales inspection including a leak down test which has highlighted that two cylinders are higher than we would like, so the price will include a top end rebuild when purchased, whilst the few other niggles that you would expect to find will also be rectified as part of our preparation when sold.
Dunkel blue would have been a left-field choice in 1989 when new, as most were ordered in red black or white. However, today, we feel this colour suits the car perfectly. An increasingly rare opportunity to secure a rock-solid sensible mileage Carrera for immediate enjoyment.
