One truly obsessive private owner and only 12,240 miles from new.
We are pleased to offer this truly immaculate one owner low mileage Cayman 981 manual for sale. We believe it would be fair to say that this car has been pampered since day one like no other.
It has been used sparingly and carefully throughout, cleaned and polished regularly, before being tucked away in the garage. It has always been driven with gloves on and with seat covers, it has never had any luggage stowed in either luggage compartment and amazingly, the passenger seat has never been used! It is truly a collector grade car.
The 2.7 litre engine produces 275HP, surpassing the industry performance benchmark of 100HP per litre and the first Cayman engine to do so. With peak power arriving at 7,400 RPM and redlined at 7,800 RPM, it sprints from 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds and onto a top speed of 165mph. However, it’s really the in-gear performance which captivates – this car was built to thrill when already in motion.
Flick through road tests of the 981 when new and it quickly becomes apparent that the 2.7 specified with a 6 speed manual gearbox would be the choice of most enthusiast road testers over the brawnier S for our roads in the UK – it’s more enjoyable to work this unit hard alongside its stirring boxer engine soundtrack, full of induction roar, high-rev sparkle and crisper response.
This verdict was not lost on the owner of this particular car, as a driver-focussed analogue specification was required, so this example is refreshingly absent of non-essential and weight-inducing options; simplicity and purity were carefully considered from the outset.
It was ordered new from Porsche Centre Leeds and registered on the 01.03.2016, in fact it was the last 981 2.7 supplied by this dealership before the 718 series arrived the same month. Finished in pure white with black interior, the X73 sports chassis option was specified and unusually combined with 18” wheels instead of the more familiar 20” options. This was an inspired decision, as this Cayman retains a compliant ride and more classical aesthetic, secure and planted with its 20mm lowered chassis, with great steering response, immediate turn-in, precision and poise throughout.
The 6 speed manual was specified to be beautifully engaging, together with a simple leather trimmed steering wheel, devoid of any additional controls, focussing instead only on the driving experience.
The chassis geometry has been recently refined even further with subtle and lightweight magnesium alloy wheel spacers (7mm front and 15mm rear) together with revised and enhanced geometry set-up by RPM Technik to maximise the capability of the X73 sports chassis option for fast road use. Additionally, the brake callipers have been refinished in gloss black with Porsche script and it now has an OEM (Philips) LED headlamp upgrade. RPM Technik also completed the car’s major service this summer, whilst the first service was carried out by Porsche Centre Leeds in 2018.
The 4 cylinder turbo 718 replaced the 981 Cayman in 2016 with many mourning the loss of the normally aspirated wailing flat six engine, ensuring 981 Caymans are highly desirable today.
This one owner 981 was one of the last to be produced, still presents in as new condition throughout and it ticks all the boxes for those who want to enjoy an analogue and engaging driving experience.
